Special Structures
Some of the most exciting work I do in environmental and green business law involves helping my clients with special corporate structures. While LLCs, partnerships, 501(c)(3)s and other common models work in most cases, some situations call for something different. Two of the more recent legal developments include:
- The Benefit Corporation: This is an entity model — hopefully available in California soon — that combines corporate resources with nonprofit values to reach higher legal and environmental standards and greater transparency to investors, partners and customers.
- The L3C: The L3C is a hybrid entity model that combines the nonprofit goal of working for the common good with the corporate goal of making profit.
